Idents
An Ident is used by film production companies so it is recognisable. As soon as the audience see the ident they know who makes the film. Production companies use this to create familiarity. It is a form of branding the film.
These companies produce the most films, they have the biggest budgets and usually produce the biggest profit. These emblems are the most recognisable images in the industry.
Paramount’s mountain logo is the oldest surviving studio emblem dating back to 1912.
While Columbia’s torch carrying lady dates back to 1924.
And the iconic Art Deco monument that 20 Century Fox uses as a logo was developed in 1935.
The six most popular production companys all have their own idents that are known worldwide. These are WaltDisney, Paramount, Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, Universal and Columbia.

Purpose of a Poster
Posters are use to advertise the film to the public. They are put in public places such as billboards, bus stops, back of magazines, side of buses and in shop windows. There were 20 posters released for Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows Part 2 to help build up anticipation up until the release. They normally include the date of release, the directors name and production company and the names of actors. Usually if actors starring in a film are popular then the name will be included to make the audience more likely to want to see the film if they like that particular actor. Posters are available to buy and are sometimes collected.
The Purpose of a Magazine Cover
Film magazines inform the public about upcoming films, so the audience can learn the characters, actors, plot, production, release date, interveiws etc.... These are all used to get audiences excited and even interested. If you bought the magazine for another article and happen to come another good looking film then the magazine has served it's purpose. The front cover of the magazine is most often the biggest film due to be released, these are often made by big companies such as Warner Bros, Pixar, Twentieth Century Fox. This will reach a wide audience to attract readers. Magazines use puffs such as "exclusive" and "sneak peak"
Costume List
Jake Clark - He will wear hooded clothing in fitting with the outfit of the "scally" look. Tracksuit bottoms will also be worn.
Andrew Rowan - Will wear an AA hoody because they are very in style at the moment. To be a little different i have decided he will wear a cap to bring in an American style look to a british film.
Tom Garrahan - Will wear jeans and converse so he looks more "Mosher" than Jake and Andy.

Killer Elite Trailer Analysis
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMipUB20qHM
At the start of Killer Elite we have the green screen for about 5 seconds. And right from the start we are introduced to te two main characters, one appears to have the upper hand but then we have the start of the action with some complex fighting sequences after which he jumps out of a window still attached to a chai. We the have text saying “Based on a true story”. We then have a phone ringing and some more drama as one of the men as found the other. We haves some hints to the story where we see a picture of an older man the words “he’s like a father” the “if you don’t do this he’s a dead man” Then there are a few snippets of fight scenes just to give the audience a taste of the violence in this film., The trailer then reveals when the film will be released with text. The song then changes to an old school rock theme, fast cuts are then used of car chases, the characters, explosions. The introduction of a heroin. Then in order of roles the actors names in between intense action scenes. I think it is clever how they only use the actors last names because they are already highly established actors so there first name doesn’t even need to be said. We then come to an unexpected end where we have a little comedy line the title of the film, a bit of a fight scene that end with a punch to the groin. I think his is a good ending to the trailer because the unexpected comedy may draw more of an audience to the film.

History of Trailers
Film trailers were used as early as 1913 when Nils Granlund advertised "The Pleasure Seekers" which was a theater performance at Winter Gardens. Advertisements became more common in the 1930's when Walt Disney used them to advertise Snow White. Another film called "Gone With The Wind" used trailers to attract their audience. These trailers usually consisted of a voice over trying to convince the audience to coma and see the film. Film trailers have advanced since then instead of long scenes from the film they use Jump cuts such as the ones seen in "Dr Strangelove" in the 1960's, this had text and many scenes from the film. This has progressed to the trailers we see today that have jump cuts, music over the scenes and some speech from the film.

Magazine Cover Analysis
This is the front cover of Total film. The image is of the main character in Star Trek, relatively unknown in the acting world. His face is the main image in blck and white makes it seem old, like the old Star Trek. There is an element of broodiness in his features.
The Department
I think this poster is good at looking dramatic, the film it self is dratic and tense. The three main actors in this film had to appear on the poster as they are all as big as eachother. Their faces appear quite artistically in the lettering. The dark back ground contrasts with the light lettering.
Poster Analysis
This is the new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises released in 2012. I think this is a good poster as it is a Gothic theme in keeping with the recognisable darkness of the Batman. It's effective in building excitment for its release, it does not give anything away of the story but gives us the sense of chaos with the buildings falling down.

Trailer Terminology
Here is some terminology i will use when analysing film trailors.
Plot Summary - Trailers usually have a three-act structure, they start with a beginning (act 1) which gives the premise to the story. The middle (act 2) drives the story to a dramatic climax and the end (act 3) usually has some signature music which is usually a recogniseable song or a powerful orchestral piece which link to a montage of some powerful moments of the film.
Voice Over - This is a narration to set up the premise of the movie and give explanation where needed. Because trailers are short it helps the audience understand the plot more.
Music - The music in the trailer is usually from the film itself, it helps set the tone for the film. It is sometimes a popular or recogniseable piece. An original piece designed for the film.
Cast Run - This is a list of the stars in the film, trailers often try to make clear that they have a big name in their film. If the director is well known then sometimes he gets a mention too.
The Billing Block - This is a list of the main cast and crew, it can be shown at the start or end of a film aswell as on the trailer and poster.
Sound Mix - Most films have a good multichannel sound mix such as Dolby Digital.
Video Reolution - Usually high quality 35mm film or digital and can be streamed on the internet at any resolution up to 1080p

These trailers are shown on the internet, in the Cinema and on Television. Film trailers are veiwed by nearly 10 billion veiwers a year so it is an effective way of marketing a film.
The purpose of a film magazine is to market films, big films get the front cover which may attract readers. They read about the film and this creates interest to make them want to go and see it.
